Help keep Madiba’s legacy alive with Mandela Day book drive
The Nelson Mandela Foundation, in partnership with The Book People, today launched its book drive initiative which aims to collect 67 000 books and promote literacy over the next three months.

Three more Mandela Day container libraries donated to Limpopo schools
Thanks to ThyssenKrupp, the Mandela Bangle programme was able to deliver three container libraries to different schools on the outskirts of Lephalale in Limpopo – Majadibodu Secondary School, Batlhalerwa High School and Mosima Primary-2.

Breadline Africa launches 51st Mandela Day Library
Lujecweni in Flagstaff, Eastern Cape, is a traditionally rural community and Lujecweni Junior Secondary School is a home away from home for over 400 learners from grade R to 9. State-owned company Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) sponsored this Mandela Day Library.

McIntosh Polela, author of the popular autobiography, My Father, My Monster, former police spokesperson and TV journalist, was the ideal person to launch the Mandela Day Library Book Club at Protea Glen Secondary School in Soweto on 5 November 2014.

Caring4Girls programme provides sanitary towels, dignity and a better education to schoolgirls
The Caring4Girls programme driven by the Imbumba Foundation tackles the plight of impoverished girls who often miss school during their menstrual cycles due to the lack of sanitary pads. It is Mandela Day initiatives such as these that remind us who we are and where we are from and speaks to the fabric of our democracy that was realised based on the notion of community and collective responsibility.

Alexandra school celebrates National Literacy Week with Mandela Day container library launch
On 6 September 2014, right in the middle of National Literacy Week, students and educators at Skeen Primary School in Alexandra township, Johannesburg, celebrated the opening of the school’s Mandela Day container library.

Container library opens in Sedibeng village, Northern Cape
The principal and staff at Sedibeng Primary School were happy to celebrate the arrival of their very own Mandela Day container library on 5 September 2014. Sponsored by the Public Investment Corporation and launched by Breadline Africa and the Nelson Mandela Foundation, the container library is the 48th installation under the Mandela Day libraries project umbrella, and will serve the school’s learners and community members in the surrounding Sedibeng village.
