Mandela Day at KwaNtsikana Secondary School: youth leading the change
On 18 July 2025, in celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day, learners from the Back-a-Buddy initiative, supported by Page 82 Media, will visit KwaNtsikana Secondary School in Orlando West, Soweto, in a powerful act of youth-led solidarity.
The day will include planting and expanding the school’s vegetable garden, distributing dignity packs, stationery, and essential nutrition items to more than 200 learners. At the heart of it all is a simple truth — that it is still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity.
This initiative forms part of a peer-to-peer education and advocacy programme aligned with the Life Orientation curriculum and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It brings learners from IEB and public schools together to reflect, serve, and build relationships rooted in dignity, equality, and access to education.
"Small hands, big dreams- together we can make a difference", said Melusi Dube, Managing Director
But this is more than a Mandela Day event. It is part of a growing national movement that includes community service hours, international exchanges, and youth participation in global forums such as the UN Human Rights Summit.
