For Nelson Mandela University, Mandela Week is about more than marking a date on the calendar. It's about building long-term partnerships that strengthen communities and create lasting change.

From 14–17 July, the university will host a week of activities in partnership with the Zwide Development Forum, centred around Zamukukhanya Primary School in Gqeberha. This year's theme, "Taking a Stand Against GBV, Substance Abuse & Poverty – Building Unity Through Action," reflects a commitment to tackling some of South Africa's most pressing challenges through practical, community-led action.

The programme includes an Inclusive Community Sports Day, the establishment of household food gardens, a Community Wellness and Empowerment Day, and a community march against gender-based violence and substance abuse. Throughout the week, volunteers and partners will also support the school through infrastructure improvements, educational resources, food security initiatives and enrichment programmes.

The Nelson Mandela University is inviting individuals, organisations and businesses to contribute essential items such as stationery, school shoes, school bags and non-perishable food, offer professional services, volunteer during the week, or provide financial and in-kind support.

Every contribution will help create a safer, stronger and more supportive environment for learners and the wider community.
