Breadline Africa visited Parkdene Primary School in Scottsdene, Kuilsriver on 18 July, Mandela Day. Breadline Africa staff visited the school to oversee the implementation of a bright and colourful container library that was to be given a new lease on life, thanks to Brand Identity.

The following is a report from Breadline Africa on the day's activties:

Arriving at the school, you could feel the excitement of the learners and teachers. Today is a very special day, it’s Madiba’s 94th Birthday.

Breadline Africa is just as excited as today we would have a look at how a container would be getting a new lease on life with the help of Brand Identity. Taking one old shipping container and moulding it into a library to be filled books.

This is turn will create a whole new universe full of stories for the learners to explore.

Mr van Wyk (Principal) showed us the way to the library standing proud on the school grounds.

There it was - the container library - waiting for big things to come.

This container library could just not wait for all Brand Identity’s staff members to come along and start the painting process.

The colours chosen for the library are bold and colourful and would definitely make the learners come back for more. Everyone was just so enthusiastic and aside from a few minor spills and mishaps the painting process went smoothly.

It’s a process and after all the painting, a graphic artist will be back to expand on the theme of how important a library is in any school and the importance of reading.

During the day, lunch was served for the learners. At most the school has to feed at least 500 learners per day. A great task for sure. Today the school had a bit of help in that Brand Identity sponsored all the learners with a meal.

As you can imagine all the learners could not wait for their meal.

The best part of the day was when the pupils sang Happy Birthday and the national anthem, their faces just lit up with joy and pride. A smile says it all.
